Did you ever wish your BBSHD went substantially faster, pulled harder and you didn’t have to be told you can’t buy the controller you want – shush it’s a secret?

Advanced processing and state of the art allows it to compute much faster and much more accurately than the standard Bafang unit (or any modded Bafang controller). Imagine your first media phone in comparison to the latest Iphone/Android device? – Things have moved on and these Canadian devices have not been designed with penny pinching mass market sales like the original.  All of this makes your 52 V motor pull much harder and release around 20% more speed than a 50A Bafang controller and whopping  2400 of power than the standard. (NB, please see our note about displays). We might add the power is designed to come in without the mechanical snapping lurch of an inferior set up.

These controller have been set up so that the motor can handle anything from 50 A up to 3000 W (easily within their design). This might mean a little explaining:

We have tested the BBSHD to destruction and on more than one occasion right up to 4500 Watts and learned a few things, real facts and not the odd exception.

Amps create heat, heat weakens the nylon gear and too many watts snap the pinion. So how do we get around this? Simple, know the limits but don’t get too close. Sure these are now nearer the limit, but ridden correctly (let the motor spin and don’t labour in the wrong gear), a reliable ride can still be had. At the lower volts where big amps are needed, we have capped the limit to 50A but as you increase your volts, we capped the watts to 2600w. but now add 10 – 20% improvement through field weakening and more accurate phase injection.

This is recommended as a throttle only and single speed (easy to adapt your free hub to single gears) application due to high RPM and low gearing. Your bike will accelerate like a rocket and still hit around 38 – 42 MPH, depending on how you gear your bike. You can accelerate faster or have a higher top speed.

You can still use your favorite pedal assist gear, just don’t use it in the high power settings. This may take splitting the cassette up and using spacers to put the optimum gear in the center for better chain line, place and the smaller low power gears on the outside. Then the none used gears then go on the inside where they are used just as as spacers..

Because of the weakness of the Nylon gear, the use of low gears is necessary and we recommend front 42T and rear no smaller that 28T on 29er or 27.5″ wheels and 26T on 26″ wheels. Smaller the rear wheel, the main rear cog can be reduced in size. So a 20″ inch wheel  be able to go something like 20T rear cog.

We ship the controller with three power levels, but can easily be change through the display to have either 5 or 9 levels. 9levels  is recommended for you that like to pedal but try and use the lower levels of power if pedaling and get that perfect big cog for full power throttle use.

level 1 is around 1000w and hits speeds of around 30 mph with modest acceleration (similar to a standard BBSHD) and a range of around 30 miles

GEARING:

Gearing (video tutorial to follow or call for explanation):

Use a 42T front Chain wheel to “Clam Shell the motor and bring the chain line inbound – we sell a cheap Lekkie clone version)

Reduce your rear cassette size to improve the chain line, removing any gears smaller than 15T and create your perfect centre-line around the 26T/28T rear sprocket (depending on wheel size)

Remove the old 9 -10=11 speed cassette and use the gear range from 15T to lowest gear. We love the  Shimano XT CS-M771-10 speed cassette as shown in the photo. Use spacers to give you a perfect chain line for the gear of your choice. For 27.5 and 29er set ups we recommend a 28T rear gear. For 26″ wheels a 26″ T gear. For fat bikes as big as you can get! (32T +)

If you want to be very smart, you can use a 2.35 mm spacer from your old cassette to space out a 17T as a “Get you home” cog for pedaling or PAS assist in power level 1. But you might have to manually put the chain onto the cog. Use your old derailleur as a tensioner and give your self enough chain (we recommend KMC x10e chains) to move up and down  you have. You will want to adjust your max/min screws so the chain does not slip off the outer sprockets (You may need to change these for longer screws)

BBSHD Motor (standard):

BBSHD Mid Drive kit is light but strong and unprecedented levels of engineering (Rated 1000W – 1500W dependent on setting and  have a proven to work reliably at 4000Watts) and Max Torque 160 NM) More efficient than HUB motors giving greater distance and response. This mid drive provides powerful ebike performance meanwhile keeps the original pedalling in comfort. With an integrated speed sensor, this mid-drive motor is compatible with standard bikes. Throttle only use in PAS mode “0” is available allowing to rest without pedalling and a further 9 levels available with “on the fly” switching.

These motors are regarded as the very best in the EBike world. Extremely quiet and robust. Water resistant  and internally lubricated within sealed casings. There have been recorded distances of 25000 miles and still going!

This motor is designed to fit bikes with a Bottom Bracket between 68 mm to 73 mm

The ASI BAC855 is locked by us and cannot  be re-programmed by third parties. The Bluetooth function is also locked. We do this to protect our intellectual property and the try to recoup some of the hours and hours or programming and testing that went into this device.

Battery:

This has been specially designed  to get the best balance of performance and range in a down tube battery yet monstrous  80A – discharge.

Maximum watt draw 4000 watts although designed for 3000 motors

This 52v 655Wh (fully charged 58v) has significantly more discharge power than any other battery 52V battery and with 80A on tap, massively increase acceleration.

We wanted to provide a battery that allows balance for a bike and give as many amps possible for our incredible ASI BAC855 controller. Now breaking the boundaries with a new 21700 specific  case, we opted for 14S3P  configuration with these massively  powerful and  larger 21700 cells capable of 30A each, the very expensive and hugely reliable  best on market Molicell P42A,  and allowing the  extra space to use a large 80 A heavy duty BMS

This is the very best of battery technology with 4A UK charger. 80 Amp Nominal BMS welded to pure nickle 0.2mm sheet. This is the highest UK output available down tube type battery on the market, designed to fit on down tube utilizing water bottle bolts. These are specifically designed for high output discharge and sustained high drain. Other inferior cells used in cheaper packs simply can’t deliver like these. If you think the cost is high, these batteries have 42 cells that retail in the UK for around £8 each! not including: BMS, casing , charger, shipping taxes AND FABRICATION.

This in reality a small battery for such high power. Motors like the CYC x1 pro can  kill almost anything if ridden incorrectly. Just like a car or motorbike, full power continuously will speed up  breaking things. When riding your bike, allow the motor to spin when in high power mode. Use your low gear (big teeth count on the rear) this will take the load off the motor. This will also give you better range and stop everything from over heating. This battery is designed to handle 80A and higher bursts, but doing so increases the chance of failure, we recommend them be used no more than 65A continuously. When you want to ride very fast on throttle, set you gear to allow gear and middle to top of cassette to save your chain and let the motor spin. When you want to PAS (pedal), drop the power and use the whole cassette. Your bike wasn’t designed to do both at the same power setting. Riding with electrical sympathy, better for your: battery, for your bike and better of your electrical components.

Because this is such a powerful battery and way beyond the realms of normal, we have had to make some modification. The power cables exit through the rear of the battery and not through the cradle. No cradle in the world can handle this amount of power. The cradle is still used to mount the battery and locks as normal.

Charging: First time charging is VERY important. Always connect the charger to the battery with the charger powered up from the mains. This will stop a “Connection Spark”. The battery needs a “Balance Charge” on first charge. Please charge as above. The charger will display two red lights (charging) after a long period of time (between 1 and 8 hrs – depending on state) the LED charger lights will display red and green. This indicates an initial charge is complete. However, as this is a new battery, not all cells within the battery are balanced (same state of charge as some were higher/lower than others to start with). This is because cells can arrive at the factory in different batches and may have slightly different charges due to time in storage). This is very common and normal. Now please leave the charger connected to the batteries for a further 12 hrs. This allows the internal balancing system (BMS) to balance out all the internal cells. The charge may turn on and off over this period of time. This “Balance charge does not need to be done every time and is recommended every 20+ charges. Leaving the charger plugged in working does not damage the batteries. The charger is designed to stop charging at a preset level and turn on again when this level drops.

Please note, Lithium batteries are considered hazardous and due care and attention should be taken. Although these cells are in wide use, and professionally manufactured in a purpose built factory; because of the power of the battery, we strongly recommend that precautions are taken. We do not recommend charging inside the family home and charging should be supervised. We take no responsibility for misuse. These batteries are thoroughly tested (full discharge and charge cycles at the manufacturing stage and also pre-delivery). These are not DIY or amateur built devices.

Mounting your 

The batteries still mount as usual on the at the  water bottle bolts and can be easily detached. However, because of the massive discharge amps, the battery cables exit direct out of the battery case (at rear) and not through the cradle. This means that it will be necessary to unplug the XT90 plug when detaching battery.

We do not recommend these batteries for power output above 80A, these will handle all 65A or lower  where a controller has a 48-90V applications but have been specifically built for the Bafang BBSHD ASI BAC uparade and CYC X1 Pro. They have XT90 connectors and are “plug and Play”

Like any device, running it constantly at maximum could lead to failure. Dont ride open throttle non stop!!

Please ALSO note, these are genuine new cells. Due to Paypal fees, the markup is minimal! Not all down tubes are the same and some slight modification maybe necessary to the mounting plate of the battery. You tube has an abundance of “How To” videos.

Warranty, due to the nature of use of these devices  (off road) warranty is limited to 6 months from date of purchase. Any damage the result of water ingress, alteration, may void warranty. This includes shortening of cables and changing connectors. It is the owners responsibility to proof against water ingress and not use in unacceptable very wet conditions, or use direct water from hose/washers. Any alteration modification to this controller or its subsequent wiring, even cutting the power leads to make shorter will immediately invalidate any warranty. Even battery disconnected, the controller can still maintains current and can be shorted/damaged. The controllers are waterproof, but can still suffer from water damage through the connector and hence are not covered for water damage. Controllers are not covered by warranty after 14 days.
Using high PAS in a high gear under heavy load may cause the controller to overheat (power level 9 in a small rear cog). Gears should be used going uphill or any other heavy load.
Attempting to reprogram the controller may cause damage.
Warranties are not transferable.
